  1. Yeah that is what I was trying to explain in my orginal post. It has a 7 second cooldown and the buff for it last 7 seconds. Even if you use it and nobody hits you, you can just reactivate it again for another 7 seconds. I don't know if any of you guys played Naruto games before on byond with substitution techinuqes but somethign like that is just ridiculous. I'd like something no shorter than 30 seconds honestly. Substitution shoudn't be something you just spam to avoid damage but should be used tactically to avoid problamatic situations.

Combat is going to be really fast paced, but it could be changed in future patches as well as the stuns on several of the Jutsus. The stuns are there to make fighting less of a pain to chase people down. I believe it may be bumped up to 12 seconds before we actually release the next alpha, but 7 seconds feels really good cause if you played the Naruto fighting game on the Xbox 360 you get 4 Substitutions to use which the game does a very good job at keeping you from avoiding damage from this.
  2. "This Jutsu allows the user to have a short term buff that lasts 7 seconds which the cooldown is also 7 seconds." Does the cooldown timer begin as soon as you activate the techinuqe or when you get hit? Either way I think that is prbably too short of a cooldown. A free dodge once every 7 seconds just seems a bit too much.

When you are hit the buff is removed, you basically can use it every 7 seconds.

I updated the main post to be more informative.

Substitution, Wyrm Waterball, and Great Fireball Techniques

    Dear Shinobi,
We've been working hard on bug fixing and balancing of the current Jutsus. Although, on top of that we've completed three new ones that will be available in the next alpha.

    Substitution Technique
This Jutsu allows the user to have a short term buff that lasts 7 seconds which the cooldown is also 7 seconds, so when you are attacked it will be activated and the buff will be removed. Whenever the user is attacked, they will teleport behind and face the same direction as the enemy that hit them. This will prevent all damage from the attack or Jutsu that they casted and give you the upper hand to make the first strike!

    dVjjlqf.gif

    Wyrm Waterball Technique
This Jutsu allows the user to attack an enemy from range stunning them for 1 second and knocking them back.

The design of this Jutsu both the way it works and the animation at the end are likely to change.

    mv8xDkO.gif

    Great Fireball Technique
This Jutsu allows the user to cast a giant fireball which does area of effect damage to enemies in a 3x3 (tiles) or 96x96 (pixels) radius. It also will stun all enemies hit directly by it for 1 second, knock them back, and cause DoT (damage over time) up to 10 times within the second it lasts, but the user will be unable to move until it is finished being channeled.

Animation is still being worked on, the position of the fire is not correct.

Special thanks to Elk for making it.

  4. Introduction
We are looking for skilled individuals that are willing to dedicate themselves in getting better and working on astounding projects at an indie level. While we want people who are talented and experienced, something that is so much more important is dedication and passion, so don't hesitate if you have these characteristics. We believe in making games for fun and getting better over making a paycheck. This job should not be taken as a paycheck, but if we work hard enough someday it could become one.

You may submit your application in this topic, or create a ticket if you wish for it to be private. We don't mind if you send one of us a personal message either, but it is very preferred if you create a ticket, so that we all can see it.

    Benefits

    • You may possibly be working on the project of your dreams.
    • You can expand your portfolio as a game developer to get your foot into the door.
    • We're not professional game developers, but we listen and learn from our failed experiences which drive us forward and get better.
    • Our projects are aimed to be commercial, but we do not pay people at the moment since our projects are volunteer until they are finished. The people that contributed the most to the project will be kept and rewarded for their dedication.
    • We work on our project daily, here to chat if you are struggling on something you are assigned, and always showing ourselves better ways to do things. We’re friendly to work with, don’t force you to contribute any amount of hours, and like to have fun.

    Positions
If your position is not listed you may still apply. We're always looking for more talented people to work with, but our standards for you will be higher than a position we desperately need.

    • One programmer that excels in HTML, CSS, and PHP. You will be responsible for the website programming and must be able to do WordPress and Invision Power Board including combining the two together/turning a PSD into a theme.
    • One programmer that excels in C# and/or Visual Basic 6 programming. You must be able to adapt to new technologies, languages, and engines without much help from us.
    • One video editor which is able to highlight Twitch broadcasts, moderate them (not mandatory), and create videos to go on our YouTube channel. You must be able to come up with an introduction with the limited resources we provide you.
    • One concept artist that is able to do illustration art which either matches or is the same level of quality of our current concept art.
    • One pixel artist that is able to do pixel art that matches our game art.

  5. A small change to the bank design. Instead of limiting equipment to one per slot, as long as the item is exactly the same you can have more than one per slot. If for example the item has different stats from being randomized then it will use multiple ones instead.

  6. Portuguese and Spanish are the only languages that I can say for certain will be translated at the moment. Although, it may not be available for awhile after the game's release, and additional servers will have to be rented for regions that need them which is something we will have to do extensive research on.

  7. But then doesn't that just make the organizations Akatsuki & Anbu useless? since one is about bringing peace (in their own views) and another is to protect the kages

It's just for RPing and organizing events within the game. Maybe in the future organizations will be able to be linked with clans, but that is not something that is planned at this time.

  8. Orcnan pretty much summed it up, someone rules the money or a village by tyranny its easy, kill the bugger and make him go through the perma death system, and if i recall correctly there are some organisations wanting to "hand loans out for services or payment ect ect"

That sounds interesting, it is something to consider later down the road though.
  9. Player run economic system  > Ai run one Just my opinion

I'm not saying to control everything in the economy with an AI. My point was that I don't want bankers or influences on the economy from staff or players when they are granted special powers such as being able to make loans. This can lead to corruption of the game or distortion of its economy. The game's economy will be a free market - there will be no values set or controlled by an AI. If we do a bank interest or loan system which I highly doubt we will, then it would be done from an AI. I imagine that player shops are what you are talking about. That is something for the future though.
  10. What are my chances of becoming the biggest banker in Nin and keeping a stranglehold on every other player without even having to take part in combat?

I don't like having a person responsible for an economic part of the game. There's better ways to do it such as a making an AI that handles and monitors the actions we want them to.
  11. Who would have thought that one of Sipher's suggestions to Seth last week would actually work to improve public relations. It's almost like when he makes a suggestion it works, what an asshole.

I do not need criticism about my public relations expertise. It's good that you are trying to help, but telling me how to do my job is quite rude. Also, everything you told me is fairly common sense when managing a community. There's hurtles that we have to overcome first before releasing updates again. Now that the hurtle has been overcome, we are pouring out updates.

    Bank and Right Click Menu

    Introduction
We're working on many new updates for the next alpha, but our first reveal is the Bank System and the addition of the Right Click Menu. The Right Click Menu is a way to drop or use an item with a new part of the interface rather than just the mouse. Instead of this, you are being given the choice what to do by being able to select what you want to do with the item.

    Demonstrations
The below illustrations showcase both the Right Click Menu and the Bank System.

    The Bank

    Right Click Menu
This system will be applied to all items in the game, you just have to right click them to utilize it. As many of our testers may know, this system is also available when right clicking players. We plan to add more support for these type of interactions to make the experience as simplistic as possible for new players to pickup. There may eventually be support added for Jutsus/items on the map as well.

    Bank
This system is useful for storing your prized possessions that you wish to keep but not inside of your inventory. Essentially, you will be given a set amount of storage spaces in your Bank. Items that are stackable which show a number next to them will all go in one slot, whereas items like equipment will take up one slot for each unique one. For example, if an item is identical to another it will use the same slot, but if it has different stats on it then it will use multiple ones.

More information about the Bank will be provided in a later Development Log.

  13. I'd have to go on Sipher with this one and say that it's worrying having you guys change languages and engines like pairs of socks.

We did research and understood, but when a new technology comes along that is more efficient to use do you keep going down the longer road? No.

Visual Basic 6 engine was never meant to use as the engine for release. It was for prototyping the game out. We only switched engines once so far in reality.

  14. I'm assuming the port to unity was scrapped.

The real question is, how long did it take to create this tiny demo? Ninonline has gone through several revisions over the years, and last year alone it went from VB6(Which I thought was a horrible idea, VB6 is not well suited for making games) to Unity for several months, and now HTML5. This requires that all the ideas for the game be re-coded into a different language.

Unity would of taken us longer and was never officially announced. We just mentioned it was a possible plan that we were seeking to go with to address our current engine. We haven't changed focus at all about the game, we just found a better solution which is a very new technology. It isn't indecision at all.

  15. Why even follow the Naruto format where one element has to be weak against something and strong against the other? I honestly don't see how a gust of wind is gonna beat a boulder or even lightning!

Another suggestion would be to add more elements than just hte main 5. Surely we could in coperate things such as ice, wood, magma, dark, light etc into the mix.

We follow the format cause that is why most people are here, because it is inspired from Naruto.

Elements are more than five, these are just the five base ones that the others can combine from.

  16. This isn't a Naruto game, this is Ninonline. I'm not sure why you guys are bothering to even ask this.

It's what the community wants not what we want. Rory mentioned that people were upset about this, so we decided to poll it to find out if it was a good change to the game.

I'm all about being original, can't stand cloning something and not putting my own twist to it, but people usually hate change got to accept that. I feel that the design is better, but people just like what they are familiar with.

  17. If its not broke don't try and fix it.Focus on what still needs to be done rather than editing what's already implemented.

This poll was due to the elements system change several months ago not something just happening now.

  18. This poll is about whether we should use the elements system from the traditional Naruto one or swap the Earth and Lightning to be more realistic. You will be able to do everything you want to in the game with either approach, the main difference is that spells like Chidori will be a hybrid element rather than just being lightning.

  19.  It's pretty funny, because this is what i've been thinking lately that this was all just to get some money and leave or such, but i'm hoping this isn't the case..

No, it isn't about money. This is a large process of what we want to do, and by restarting with a new engine we can achieve what we always wanted in half the time it would of taken in our current engine.

  20. Turkish should be added; I believe there are a fair amount of turkish-speaking folks here. I could be wrong and what is there to lose? A little of your own time, perhaps?

I picked the top 20 spoken languages, unless Turkish makes up more than 10% of our community a translation will not be done anyway. I am also limited to 20 options per poll.
