1. Shadows in the childhood

Raised by Kiki Mirana (きき みらな), direct descendant of the founder Aghila (アギーラ) of the Mirana’s clan, Laguna (ラグナ) and Midori (みどり) lived their childhood in the Land of Fire as two lovely brothers. The sun was never setting down on their hot summer days, and the two child, wearing their bloody visors – the only memory of a lost father – were used to watch from afar the rice fields glittering at the horizon. In those days of peace, they could not even imagine that the shadows hidden in their buried past would reappear for something as silly as a hair color.

By the way, even though he loved her more than anything else, Laguna could not understand it: «Why, if we are brothers, are we so different?», he was guessing. It had never seemed so important to him since that time. After all, it was just a hair color. But then, when he repeatedly tried to ask his mother, Kiki, without her usual smile painted on her face, never answered.

Laguna was just feeling the deep desire of knowing. The unceasing sensation of something big was buried inside him, like a giant in a forgotten desert. Covered by the shadows, at a certain time during his life, an idea suddenly touched him: «What if Midori isn't my sister?». So imminent, this thought disrupted him, and it was only the beginning of a descent into a deeper cave. Laguna could no longer watch Midori without thinking about it. The sunny afternoons together were slowly disappearing, and while winter was knocking at the door, the noises of the conflicts outside the countryside became more and more deafening.

As Laguna became more silent and the shadows were growing within him, at the age of 15, in front of the bathroom mirror, he noticed how his eyes had suddenly changed. A red tint, like drops of blood, had sprinkled every corner of his irises. That night, accompanied by the gloomy call of an owl, Laguna saw a man sitting in the dark of the kitchen, enlightened only by the moonlight through the windows: his name was Yamata Chinome (ヤマタみらな).
